COMMANDANTS CORNER
Hello Marine Family :)
For those of you who weren't at the last League meeting, it was run up the flag pole and saluted that in lieu of a regular business meeting October 9th that we would hold a Potluck dinner beforehand. The meeting will be shortly thereafter. We will kick off the dinner at 1800 at VFW Post 51 on 300 W. Mission Ave. Please come join us. I have a sign up roster for dishes, sides or desserts. Please reply in kind so that I can ensure we have enough to go around of everything. Perhaps this will become popular and we can do it more often because the meetings are boring enough.
So far the list of dishes already volunteered are as follows: Spanish rice, Banana Jell-O dish,
Brownies, lasagna, chille rellenjo casserole.
RSVP via email or call 327-3259

CHAPLAINS
REPORT:
Chaplain, Bill Town, reports that
Ben Taylor
is doing fine – there have been no problems
to report. Val Ritter is doing well, although his platelets are still
low. Otis Dennis told the Chaplain that due to bad air in the
Tri-Cities he isn’t getting out much. Ray Moon is not doing as well as
had been hoped; he is in constant pain, his stomach is acting up, all his
joints just ache and all of his records were sent to the VA. Wayne and
Dora Fish are doing as well as they the can do. Kay Morse is doing
fantastic. He is driving already but with regard to his walking he isn’t
going as far as he thought by this point. Norm Sanborn is doing
well. Dave & Carol Hamm are doing well, with no real problems. They
are going on a trip to Billings, MT to visit Carol’s sister. Dick Jamieson
by now should be back in town from Seattle where he went to have a complete
knee replacement. Chaplain Bill Town is still waiting to get
word from UW on when he is to go over to have his shoulder surgery.
TO
ALL YOU JIM CHAMBERLAIN POUND DEVIL DOGS
I am using the League newsletter to get the word out on the next growl. PDD
Dressler has a full bowl at work and really doesn't have the time to put out a
Pound newsletter.
The next meeting will be held on November 8,
2008, at VFW Post #51, 0900. Coffee and treats will be provided. We do need
all Dogs who can make it, in attendance, as important business will be
conducted. A "Pound Dog of the Year" (2008-2009) needs to be selected, and
distribution of bones to Children's charities will be discussed. If you have
any suggestions as to the distribution come to the meeting and bark your
choice. My personal favorites are the Shriners' Hospital and Guild School but
each and every member of the Pound in good standing does get to have a say.
Coffee stops have been good to us and we do have enough bones to cover other
or additional recommendations.
Woof Woof, Doug
From
the desk of the Senior/Junior Past
Another short
article, the September coffee stop went off without any problems. As school
was back in session and the travel season was over the results were better
than I had anticipated. The fish were not biting, at least not for me and the
other fisherman that I could see. One more to go, October 6 & 7, Monday and
Tuesday, Sprague Lake westbound. Not much MCL business to report but I’m
still keeping busy. The Swanson Lake fire got some of my hunting property so
I've been busy cutting down black toothpicks and clearing some brush. Hunting
season coming up the weekend after the coffee stop so the camper and Doug will
be in the woods for awhile. If anyone needs some Ponderosa (bull) pine
firewood and wants to do the work needed to get it, I have some standing and
down dead available at a great price ($0.00) this is not fire damaged wood.
Location is about 50 miles from town, 12 miles NW of Davenport. The
Department Fall Staff meeting will be held on October 3 & 4, meeting at 1000
on the 4th in Yakima. I will be attending and have 3 other League members
riding down with me on Saturday morning, and back after the meeting and growl
are over. It will be early reveille for the four of us.
Your thought for the month (for the wingers): "Mankind has a perfect record
in aviation; we never left one up there."

AUXILIARY MEMBERS DUES
For those members who have not “gone life”, annual dues are $25.00/year. Please either mail a check to Sam, or bring it to the October meeting.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP/AUXILIARY: The current fee for life membership in the Auxiliary, both currently as well as the 2010 increase is listed in the table below:

LIFE MEMBERSHIP/LEAGUE: There was a change to one of the tiers for payment of Life Member Fees made at the national convention in Orlando. Where the age 41 to 50 indicates the fee goes up in January 2009 to $400 it has been reduced to $350. Don’t ask me why; half of what happens at the convention doesn’t always make sense to me. I am running the current charge and the amended chart for Jan 2009$ again so every one is aware of the increase of the fees.

$1 January 2009 is the date your request to become a life member must be received by National Headquarters which means you should make your request no later than early December to ensure it arrives in time.
CARE
PACKAGES
The Auxiliary is preparing packages to send to Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. The boxes will be put together at the October meeting. Items needed are hand sanitizer, foot powder, chapstick and other personal care items; paperback books (new or used), playing cards, crossword puzzle books, Sudoku puzzles; soccer balls and footballs (deflated); non-perishable snacks (beef jerky, chewing gum, etc). Wal-Mart and Costco are both good sources for inexpensive and travel size items.

Birthday Ball Reminder: USMC Birthday Ball on November 8th hosted by “P” Battery, 5/14 at the Spokane Convention Center. USMC Birthday November 10th. We are going to be 233 years old this year. I don’t think we look a day over 200.
