John Stofiel-1998, John Witham-2000, Chuck Foster-2001, Phil Ruhmshottel-2002, Dennis Dressler-2004 and Doug

Shurtleff-2005.

Marine Ruhmshottel made a presentation to Dennis and Sam Dressler of three ball caps, signed by all at the

past National Convention expressing their love and friendship for these two and wishing them a speedy

recovery, “You were missed”.

As of 8 October, 007, checking activity, fifteen checks were written for a total of $1570.91. Income from membership

dues, new members, Dividends, and sale of 60th Anniversary Medals and Ribbons: $1789.58.

REPORT OF OFFICERS:

Commandant Tim Rubertt Absent

Sr. Vice Commandant Bill McCutchin – attended three detachment business meetings nd two growls of the

Pound. Attended Nat’l Convention in Albuquerque, NM, Supreme Growl where our own PDD Phil

Ruhmshottel was elected to Sr. Vice Chief Devil Dog. At the Grand Growl I witnessed the installation of our

own Karen Washabaugh to Nat’l President, Caroline Ruhmshottel to Nat’l. Sr. Vice President and Rosemary

Foster to NW Division Vice President. A great evening for the State of Washington at the National level.

Jr. Vice Commandant – No report.

Judge Advocate – Absent

Adjutant/Paymaster – Chuck Foster – I replied to all correspondence received, processed dues transmittals,

revised Dept. of WA Administrative forms and instruction hand book, conducted monthly Bingo at the VA

Hospital –Vancouver, attended the Nat’l. Convention, Participate in two Honor Guards funeral ceremonies,

two parades and one Dept. Convention.

Chaplain – George LaFrazia – absent

Jr. Past Cmndn’t Dennis Dressler – Due to motorcycle accident on the way home from the Dept.

Convention my activities have been limited. For the months of July-Sept. I attended Bingo athe the VAMC,

Spokane, here regular business meetings of my detachment, worked with the Young Marines, worked on the

unofficial web site for the Dept. of WA and took care of some MCL Foundation business as one of the Board

of Directors. I did not attend the Nat;l Convention, first one missed since 1999.

REPORT OF DETACHMENT COMMANDANTS:

PUGET SOUND Marine Van absent report sent. We had three business meetings, a potluck in July, rifle shoot

in August and a successful Rose Program fund raiser. Our Honor Guard attends Tahoma National Cemetery

ceremonies each month, and we visit Veterans at the VA Hospital each month. We are getting ready for our

Toys for Tots Kick off.

TRI CITIES: Marine Carter Absent. Report sent. We had three business meetings, our new meeting location is

the Benton County PUD Auditorium in Kennewick. In August we shared a booth with the Tri City Young

Marine Unit, they were recruiting for their upcoming boot camp. We made contact with thirty-two Marines

and joined a new member, we also sold six tickets to our Marine Corps Ball and we generated $220 in

donations. In Sept. we had a booth “Time of Remembrance”, to show support for our troops and joined two

new members and collected $20.00 in donations. This quarter we joined five new members. We will be

working on a “Mission for the Detachment”, small college scholarship for dependents of Veterans, YM

Scholarship to offset uniform cost, transportation of Veterans to the VA Hospital and our Toys for Tots, Honor

Guard and financial support through corporate donations, and organizing members for welcome home for

returning service members at the airport

TWIN HARBORS - .Marine Black Absent.

PIERCE COUNTY – Marine Hilbish II We joined tow new members and presented a one year membership to

Cpl. Shawn Seely, wounded by an IED in Iraq and medically retired. Marie Swanson is our Toys for Tots

coordinator. We sold all of our raffle tickets and took in over $5500.00. The drawing is on 10 November.

HAL ‘MOE’ EVERGREEN Marine Vick Absent.

OLYMPIC PENINSULA Marine Tachell We have joined two new members.

MELVIN M. SMITH Marine Ott Held business meetings, gave out awards for community support. We had our

monthly breakfast with a good turn out, three new members joined, had a successful coffee stop an held bingo

for Vet’s. at the VAMC. Our Auxiliary has been busy shipping packages to Marines in both theatres. Had a

Devil Dog Growl, elections of new officers and gave out awards. We had a dear and devoted Marine join our

Supreme Commandant Marine Arden Howey, he will sadly missed by our members. We are getting ready for

the USMC 232nd Birthday Ball and our Toys for Tots program in November.

WENATCHEE Marine Severance No Report.

COLUMBIA RIVER Marine Renton absent, report sent. We were honored and proud to have hosted the 60th

Anniversary of the Dept. of WA Convention, we managed to have fun and stay in the black. Our membership

has grown by ten and we continue to be active in the community with the following organizations and

activities: Clark County Veterans Resource Committee- sales tax funds to homeless Veterans, providing 40

beds to Vets who need them; VAVS Nine of our members now drive the shuttle cart at the VAMCVancouver,

providing rides to 40,000 Veterans last year. We also have one member working the information

desk one day a week. We attend monthly luncheons at a VA contracted nursing facility; Honor Guard We

provide Colors Guards and Flag folding ceremonies for memorial services at Portland/Vancouver VA Chapels,

Barracks cemetery and to other organizations in the community; Key Volunteer Network (KVN) we provide

support to the Marines and families of 6th Engr Bn, Swan Island, Portland. Boy Scouts: We support the BSA

with Color Guards/Flag Folding at their Blue & Gold dinners and Courts of Honor. Marine Corps

Coordinating Council (MCCC) The Council was formed by the various USMC Active/Reserve/

Veterans organizations to support Marines and their families and to coordinate our various activities in our aor.

We support the Annual Semper Fi Golf Classic which receives donations for Corps related charities. This year

at our golf tournament we raised over $28,000.00; Young Marines: we are actively involved with the Lewis

and Clark Unit, of which many graduates of the program are now serving in the Corps, and our sister services,

we also assisted in bringing on a new Young Marine Program – Oregon Cascade Unit located in Beaverton,

OR; Recruiters: We continue to support our local recruiters and they are an integral part of our family; Clark

County Historical Museum – we provide support in opening up the museum one night a week for local

families and support the Annual Harvest Day celebration.. Clark County Chamber of Commerce – As

members of the Chamber we have opened doors for our Marines returning to the community seeking

MT. ST. HELENS Marine Reams our current membership is 16 Marines and one Corpsman. We held three

business meetings. Our members participated in six Honor Guard funeral ceremonies for Veterans and a

special ceremony for one of our own, Marine Don Benton, with a special presentation to his two daughters.

We provide bingo the first Thurs. each month at thee VAMC-Vancouver. We have a League shooting team,

our first this year. We provided a firing detail for the Memorial Day ceremony, and were in the 4th of July

parade and the Kelso Highland Festival parade. We participated in the “Gifts for the Troops” program with

over 3,000 lbs. of gifts going to the troops thanks to the Coweeman School kids that were involved. We

presented them with a certificate of appreciation. In July we had our annual picnic with a good turn out. We

now have our own Service Representative and a new Adjutant/Paymaster. Visit our web site:

MT. OLYMPUS Marine Abbot Absent Report sent – We will be holding our 4th ‘Homeless Veterans Stand

Down’ at the Clallam County Fairgrounds on 4 Dec. 2007. In addition our detachment has been working to

bring a CBOC Primary care VA Clinic to port Angeles, we circulated petitions, gathered signatures, manned

an information booth and wrote letters to the public officials. Our hard work paid off, in Aug. Sen. Patty

Murray and Rep. Norm Dicks opened the new clinic in Port Angeles and our Detachment were publicly

recognized for their part in this lengthy campaign. In addition our own Toys for Tots Marine Tom Keown and

Jim Graham were recognized for their part in getting this clinic for Port Angeles. Our monthly ‘Bell Ringing’

ceremony, two parades and Veteran’s funerals we have been involved in a VFW training seminar for Service

Officers, POW/MIA ceremony, Veterans’ Day ceremony at the County Fair, and now preparing for the Annual

Veterans Day ceremony at the USCG Air Station in Port Angeles, and the exhibition of Marine Richard B

Anderson’s ‘Medal of Honor’ at the High School he attended before joining the Corps. We awarded two $500

scholarships to local High School students and $150. in grants to the NJROTC Cadets in Port Angeles schools.

Our detachment Membership stands at 31 Regular members and 13 Life Members.

SKAGIT VALLEY Marine Anderson absent

YAKIMA/KITTITAS VALLEY Marine Falter Since our Dept. Convention our Detachment provide Honor

Details for six funerals, we received a $2,000. grant from the Legends Casino to purchase uniforms and

accessories to outfit our Honor Detail. We installed our new Officers for 2008, and recruited five new

members. We had a hot dog fundraiser at our local grocery store and netted $410. in sales and donations Co.

4th Tank Bn presented certificates of appreciation to 5 of our members for their support in the 2006 Toys for

Tots program. We presented ‘Good Citizenship Awards’ to ten Eagle Scouts at the Annual Scouting Awards

dinner. Cmndn’t Ed Falter and his wife Sandra, Pres of the Auxiliary Unit attended the Mt. Rainier Memorial

Service in Enumclaw, and we provided Honors at a Marine wedding, provided the Arch of Swords and

serenaded the new couple with the only song we knew, The Marines Hymn. We ended September with the

marshalling of the Sun Fair Parade, and fina; preparations for the Fall Staff Meeting.

LEWIS COUNTY Marine Dennison Absent.

MAJ. MEAGAN MCCLUNG Marine Eglet Absent sent report. We have two new life members, attended our

County Fair, Made $200. in donations. Our Marine Corps Ball will be held at the Northern Lights Casino in

Anacortes on 10 Nov. If you would like to attend call me, Tony, Adj/Pay at 360-730-1890, All are welcome.

Attended Memorial Services for 4 Veterans who joined our Supreme Commandant, and we donated $100. for

phone cards for Marines in Iraq.

Marine Ed Falter led those present in the singing of The Marines Hymn.

REPORT OF STANDING COMMITTEES/ADVISORY COUNCILS:

DETACHMENT COMMANDANTS COUNCIL: Marine McCutchin – The Council met in June, one item was a newsletter

from the Dept. to Detachments, and in September our PR person, Marine Stofiel published the first one, a well done to

Marine Stofiel.

DEPARTMENT COMMANDANTS COUNCIL: Marine Dressler – the same, above was addressed by this council and also

sending of the Minutes to all Past Department Commandants.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Marine Falter no report.

PUBLICATIONS: Marine Rubertt Absent

DEPARTMENT CONVENTION: ‘2008’ Marine Ott, convention will be the first week in June, 6-8th. We are still working

with 3 hotels, and as soon as we have one we will get the information out to the State and also to the NW Division

Vice Commandant Bob Gilmore.

NOMINATION COMMITTEE: Marine Dressler – nominations are open for all who would like to move through the chairs.

You can send me an email or give me a call if you would like to serve. At the Spring Staff Meeting a slate of Officers

will be posted for 2008.

AWARDS/CITATIONS: Marine Shurtleff – (See Enclosure 1)

MARINE OF THE YEAR: Marine Ruhmshottel – On the Dept. Marine of the Year nominations, starting this year, you

may still mail your nominations 5 days prior to the Spring Staff Meeting, or you may now hand carry your nomination

to the Committee Chairman or Secretary no later than 1200 on the day of the Spring Staff Meeting, under no

circumstances will a nomination be submitted via email. Nomination forms will be sent to all Commandants in

December, follow instructions and return as directed.

BYLAWS COMMITTEE: Marine Abbott Absent.

VAVS COMMITTEE: Marine Hopper – I had the pleasure of attending the National Convention and meeting Pat Cody,

Director of the Nat’l. VAVS Program. He informed me we could have as many VAVs Deputies or Representatives as

we could sign up. To hold special clinics for Veterans I have the paper work and phone numbers to call. Anyone

wishing to help with the VAVS, we need to be sure they are credited to the Marine Corps League.
