15 February - something new on the page!

GROWL OF THE POUND:  The Jim Chamberlain Pound had a short notice growl on Saturday 13 February 2010 before cooking started for the pancake breakfast at VFW Post 51.  For short notice it was one of the best turn outs we have had for quite some time.  There was even a quorum!  See below for Scratchings of the Growl.

Scratchings of the last growl:  The growl was called to order at approximately 0730.  Opening ceremonies were conducted in accordance with prescribed ritual.  Present were:  PDD Randy Ott, PDD Dennis Dressler, PDD Bill Town, DD Jim Stailey, PDD Dick Jamieson, PDD Norm Sanborn, PUP Doc Kaltenbaugh, and DD Cory Dressler (Kennel Stray).  There were no scratchings of the previous meeting read.  Dog Robber's Report was presented to the body and approved.

Sick and in distress:  Dog Trainer PDD Town advised that PDD Otis Dennis is doing better and enjoying the weather in the Tri-Cities.  PDD Ray Moon is having back trouble and is still on oxygen 24/7.  DD Cory Dressler advised that his brother-in-law Joseph Ward is in the ICU in Pittsburg and he asks for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

There was no old business to conduct.

New business:  PDD Ott advised of a program with which he has become involved; the program is Free Rein which is a horse based theraputic program.  After a motion and second from the floor there was discussion and a unanimous vote allowed for a $500 donation.  A check was "cut" and given to PDD Ott who advised he would deliver it when he volunteered there on President's Day.

DD Jim Stailey brought forth for discussion the idea of establishing a "Tim Rubertt Award" similar in nature to the "Bailey Reynolds Award" the detachment has in place.  The two primary differences would be that it is [1] a Dog award at the Pound level; and [2] not be limited to just members of the board of trustees but to recognize the Dog who most exemplified Tim's volunteer efforts.  A committee was formed consisting of PDD Ott, DD Stailey and PDD Dressler.

Good of the Order:  A proposal to have a joint growl with the Ruben Gill Pound from CDA, Idaho (possibly in April) was presented and PDD Ott volunteered to contact the Gill Pound to see if that could be made to happen.

Announcements:  The next breakfast in support of Toys For Tots will be March 20, 2010.  The Department of Washington Spring Staff Meeting (and Washington Pack Growl) will be April 10 in Yakima.

Appropriate closing ceremonies were conducted in accordance with the ritual.  The meeting was closed and all hands turned-to cooking at the T4T fund raising breakfast.

Renee Weimer was joined as a PUP during the breakfast that followed the growl!

Semper barking,

Dennis
