MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY 2010 REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING


THE MEETING WAS BROUGHT TO ORDER AT 1900 HRS. BY SR. VC MELANSON.  The Roll call of Officers revealed only the excused absence of Commandant Bennett. Sr. Vice Commandant Melanson recognized the past Commandants present and those who held higher office in the Department or at National.

 MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Approved as corrected by Randy Ott who pointed out the correct date for the March MCL breakfast to be March 20.

REPORT OF THE PAYMASTER: The General Fund has a balance of $2,470.32 and Savings stands at $1,184.28. The complete report is attached.

REPORT OF THE CHAPLAIN:  The following Marines have passed away since our last meeting: R. Thomas Pleas, 84, a WWII veteran of the battle of Iwo Jima; Gene D. Arlt, 78, a Korean War Veteran; Harold Duane Harvey, 84, a veteran of the Saipan and Okinawa battles; Lavene Cook, 87, also an Okinawa vet; Lance Higgins, 80 and Gaylord Thomson, 86, a WWII veteran of the 2nd Marine Division.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:  

MEMBERSHIP--Pat Rowand suggested we might recruit some members by giving them a free breakfast and also invite those in arrears on membership to enjoy a breakfast on us when they bring dues up to date.

 

AWARDS--Dennis Dressler was presented the MCL National Meritorious Service award.  The following members received ribbons for a first award or bronze star for a subsequent presentation of the Detachment Meritorious Commendation: Pat Rowand, Hank Melanson, Bill Town and Randy Ott. MCL Detachment Staff elected and appointed awards were presented to: Randy Ott, Hank Melanson, Pat Rowand and Dennis Dressler for their positions held last year. Dennis Received the MCL Staff Appointed for serving as Adj. Paymaster.  Detachment staff Appointed awards were made to Bill Town, Kay Morse and George Barnett. Detachment Recruiters honored were: Tim O’Hare, Randy Ott and Pat Rowand.  Larry Marks has served many years as Awards chair and would like to be replaced.

 

NEWSLETTER--Dennis and Sam have written printed and mailed the newsletter for years but now have set up an E Mail to Randy who has a high speed printer to publish and mail the monthly newsletter.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  Cory Dressler said he has some Marine Picture albums which should go to the Historian if one can be found.
NEW BUSINESS:  Hank brought up the buffalo raffle possibility but the drawing date is so near we cannot participate this year,  Randy moved that we remain in good standing with the Wyoming Veterans organization by donating $100.00 now  towards their scholarship fund and hoping to participate next year. Approved. Randy moved that we reimburse Larry Marks for his expenditures toward award items totaling $81.40. Approved. MM Smith member Ed Bell of Priest River, the lone survivor of the USS Indianapolis would like to attend the Boy Scout jamboree but lacks funds.  He moved that we donate $200 toward his transportation.  Approved.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE LEAGUE: Randy volunteered to be the MCL point of contact for the Eagle Scouts to add an MCL Americanism award to their Eagle ceremony.
